Message from the H.O.D

PROF. KABIR AYOBAMI RAHEEM, (H.O.D, Theriogenology and Production)

Welcome address:

On behalf of the entire staff of Theriogenology and Production, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the Department through the internet.

In two words, Theriogenology means Veterinary Reproduction, the raison d’être for omitting Veterinary from her name to avoid tautology, and hence, we remain the only department in the Faculty without the prefix, Veterinary.

The Department is saddled with responsibilities of providing teaching and conducting research in areas of Theriogenology, essentially for training Veterinary medical student as well as impacting skills at Clinical levels on all aspects of animal reproduction that include veterinary andrology, veterinary gynaecology, veterinary obstetrics, neonatal care, udder health management and reproductive biotechnologies (such as Artificial Insemination, oestrus synchronization, multiple ovulation and embryo transfer) in varieties of animal species that comprise food, farm, domestic and laboratory animals.

Most often, I emphasized to the sisters’ department in the faculty that Theriogenology and Production are cornerstones and pillars of Veterinary education, as they primarily focus on ensuring reproduction to guarantee animal sustainability, and production to enhance profitability. Profitability is essential in every business endeavour, including the livestock industry. With all levels of care and medical attention, when an animal attains old age, it dies. Animal species that do not reproduce are bound to go into extinction, and those that do not produce adequately cannot be kept as livestock. These are the essence of Theriogenology and Production.

When adequate facilities meet staff of greater zeal and competence, the outcome is success. Yes, outstanding Success! That is our watchword and promise to you as you make the right decision to become a veterinarian or to further your veterinary career with us at the MSc and PhD levels.
Thanks.
